Prior to writing, please read books on your topic. Depending on the age of your child, 2-5 books are recommended. Locating other reputable sources online, in educational magazines, encyclopedias, etc. may be other good resources for the older children. Parents please lead and guide to ensure these sources are coming from reliable institutions.
Guidelines for Writing for Ages 6-10
1-3 paragraphs of hand-written report, recommend
A written summary of what they learned. Should answer like: Why did they choose their topic? What surprised them along the way or what was interesting? What was their process? What was their favorite part/book?
A title page and a bibliography page (citing sources) is also important at this level, 1-3 sources recommended.
Guidelines for Writing for Ages 11-14
2-4 paragraphs of hand-written or typed report, recommend
A written summary of what they learned. Should answer like: Why did they choose their topic? What surprised them along the way or what was interesting? What was their process? What went well? What would they do differently if they were to do it over again? What was their favorite part/book? What can they conclude from their learning?
A title page and a bibliography page (citing sources) is expected at this level, 2-4 sources recommended.
Guidelines for Writing for Ages 15-19
3-5 paragraphs of typed report, recommend. Font size 12, Times New Roman
A written summary of what they learned. Should include an introduction, supporting paragraphs with details, and a conclusion.
Should answer like: Why did they choose their topic? What surprised them along the way or what was interesting? What was their process? What went well? What would they do differently if they were to do it over again? What was their most helpful resource and why? What can they conclude from their process?
A title page and a separate bibliography page (citing sources) is expected at this level, 3-5 sources recommended.
