Where to Start
Where to Start
Every great discovery begins with a question. Start by helping your child focus on a topic that they are already interested in. Does your child really like animals, plants, or the stars? Maybe they love anything mechanical. Reminding your child of what they really enjoy or curious to learn more about is a great place to start. Next turn the topic into a question, here are a few examples:
When is the best time to plant cucumbers?
How does music affect the human mood?
How much time does it take for fossils to form?
Which materials are the best conductors of electricity?
If you still need some additional help selecting a topic, try out this brief quiz to help, created by Science Buddies and the Cisco Foundation:
Register first. This will ensure your child(ren) will receive a ribbon upon completion of their work.Â

You can find many image examples online of what the scientific method looks like for different age levels.
YouTube has many videos for various levels explaining the process.
The above example is for high school aged children and adults.
