Why should I test my child? The purpose of these tests is to give parents an overview of their child's strengths and areas for improvement, which can be targeted in the following school year. The tests provide an unbiased measure of academic growth based on the child's birthdate. Some parents choose to test their children annually to track progress and guide their teaching. In the state of Georgia, standardized testing is required every three years starting around the ages of 9-10.
This testing opportunity is designed for busy families who want their child(ren) tested using a nationally normed, research-based assessment. The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) offers parents an unbiased measure of academic growth, highlighting both strengths and weaknesses. It also provides students with practice for pre-college tests like the SAT/ACT. Students will first take a practice test. All supplies will be provided, tests will be administered within the allotted time, then mailed back, and results will be sent to the parents. This is a paper/pencil test.

Why the Iowa test? It is a standardized test nationally normed in 2011 & 2017 that measures student achievement and growth across various standards. This test monitors progress using a researched-based vertical scale to accurately measure academic growth from kindergarten through high school. The CAT survey is another test that many homeschooling families choose to use. This test may be cheaper, but it was last normed in 1986. If you are going to purchase a tool to help your child’s future success, which will more accurately help for future success? Do your research, know the facts before you choose.
