Georgia state law home school requirements summarized
1. Declaration of Intent Form is the only official document a parent/guardian submits to the Georgia Department of Education to begin or continue a home school program.
The Declaration of Intent must be submitted within 30 days of beginning a home school program, and by September 1 annually thereafter if you continue homeschooling.
This document may be submitted electronically, by fax, or US Mail.
2. Georgia’s home study law requires homeschool parents/guardians to provide a basic academic educational program which includes the five content areas below, at a minimum for 180 days of instruction for at least 4-1/2 hours of instruction per day, beginning at age 6. You may also teach other content areas.
Mathematics,
English Language Arts,
Science,
Social Studies, and
Reading
3. Standardized Testing Students in home study programs shall be subject to an appropriate nationally standardized testing program administered in consultation with a person trained in the administration and interpretation of norm referenced tests.
